I have always said that mosquitos love my blood, but if mosquitos love my blood, they must think my son's blood is the creme de la creme because when he's near they completely ignore me. Other than being a nuisance, I really didn't think much of the annoying bites... That was until we were in the Emergency Department with my son suffering an allergic reaction from their bites. Luckily it was not life threatening, but the amount of swelling he suffered from the bites was extreme. That's when we realized that being outdoors meant something different for our family during the mosquito months.
We do basic mosquito protection by wearing long sleeves, using protective sprays and scented deterrent sprays/stickers/bracelets. Unfortunately, these things have limited protection, especially with my son. These mosquitos in Lucas/Allen go right through cloths and ignore most of our protective measures. Sometimes we just want to go swimming in our own pool, pick blackberries from our bushes for a few minutes, or play on our trampoline without having to suit up... and being a normal kid means he doesn't want to use protective measures for basic outdoor play at our own home.
